What Is Sort Dock?
Sort Dock is a modular storage and organization system built around a simple idea:
Great organization shouldn't require you to build everything yourself.
Our cabinets and drawers are designed to provide a durable, ready-to-use home for Gridfinity-compatible bins and accessories, giving you the flexibility of one of the maker community's most versatile organization systems without requiring you to own a 3D printer—or spend days building and assembling an entire storage system yourself.
Sort Dock cabinets and drawers arrive assembled and ready to use. Choose your cabinet, configure the drawers and bins that work for you, and start organizing.
No flat-packed cabinet. No three-night assembly project. No printing hundreds of hours of structural parts before you can use your storage system.
Just open it, load it, and make it yours.
Why I Started Sort Dock
Sort Dock started because I needed it myself.
I collect and work with a little bit of everything: LEGO, electronics components, hardware, crafting supplies, beads, jewelry, tools, and all of the small parts that seem to multiply whenever you build, repair, create, or collect things.
The problem was never finding a storage container.
The problem was finding one storage system that could work across all of those things.
Most small-parts cabinets lock you into one drawer size or one manufacturer's bins. Hobby storage might work well for beads but poorly for electronic components. Hardware organizers aren't necessarily suited for LEGO. And once your needs change, you often end up buying another completely different storage system.
Then there was Gridfinity.
Inspired by an Incredible Open-Source Community
Gridfinity was originally created by Zack Freedman of Voidstar Lab and introduced to the maker community as an open modular organization system.
The concept is brilliantly simple: build storage around a standardized grid so containers, holders, trays, tool organizers, and countless other designs can work together.
What happened next is one of the things that makes Gridfinity special.
The 3D-printing community ran with it.
Today, makers and designers around the world have created an enormous variety of Gridfinity-compatible designs for tools, electronic components, fasteners, hobby supplies, workshop equipment, collectibles, and things we probably haven't even thought of yet.
We didn't invent Gridfinity, and we don't want to pretend that we did.
Sort Dock is our way of helping bring that idea beyond the people who already own 3D printers.
We manufacture Gridfinity-compatible bins and storage components, while developing cabinets, drawers, and accessories specifically designed to make the system practical as a complete piece of furniture.
That means you can enjoy the flexibility of a modular system without needing to print every bin yourself.
You Don't Need a 3D Printer
One of the biggest reasons Sort Dock exists is accessibility.
3D printing is incredible, but not everyone owns a printer.
And even if you do, printing enough bins to organize an entire collection or workshop can represent dozens—or hundreds—of hours of machine time.
That's where we can help.
We offer commonly used Gridfinity-compatible bins in a variety of sizes and colors so you can simply order what you need.
And we want Sort Dock to be more than a catalog of standard bins.
The Gridfinity community has created an extraordinary library of specialized designs. When licensing permits, our goal is to offer printing services for compatible community designs as well.
Find a compatible design that solves exactly the problem you're having but don't have the printer, time, or capacity to make it?
Let our print farm make it for you.
Storage That Changes With You
The part of Gridfinity that appealed to me most was not simply the bins.
It was the idea that the organization could change.
The same Sort Dock drawer that holds electronic components today could hold LEGO tomorrow. A drawer of jewelry-making supplies can be reorganized for beads, findings, tools, or an entirely different hobby without replacing the cabinet.
Change the bins.
Move them around.
Add a specialized holder.
Print something completely new.
Add another cabinet.
Reconfigure the system.
Your storage shouldn't dictate what you can put in it.
It should adapt to you.
Ready When It Arrives
We also wanted to solve another frustration with storage furniture: assembly.
There are plenty of inexpensive cabinets available if you're willing to receive a stack of panels, bags of hardware, and an instruction manual.
That's fine for some people.
But when you're buying a storage system, we'd rather you spend your evening organizing your collection than assembling the furniture that is supposed to organize it.
That's why Sort Dock cabinets and drawers are assembled before they leave us.
They're built here, checked here, packed here, and shipped ready for you to put to work.
The modular part should be deciding how you want to use your storage, not figuring out which screw goes into which panel.
More Than a Bin
Sort Dock isn't intended to be another plastic organizer.
We're building a storage platform.
Cabinets.
Drawers.
Gridfinity-compatible bins.
Accessories.
Mobile bases.
Specialized organizers.
Custom printing.
All designed around a modular system that can grow as your workshop, hobby, collection, or business grows.
We're starting with small-parts organization because that's where the problem started for me.
But that's only the beginning.
Sort Dock. Organize it your way.
